Israeli army has killed 52 Palestinian aid seekers and injured 340 others since May 27, say local authorities

The Israeli army killed at least 34 Palestinians and injured dozens of others in fresh attacks Monday in the war-ravaged Gaza Strip, medics said.

An Israeli airstrike killed five Palestinians and injured several others after targeting a residential home in central Gaza City, a medical source told Anadolu.

Several victims remain trapped beneath the rubble of the destroyed home. Civil defense teams are working to rescue them, despite having limited resources and equipment.

Israeli fighter jets also struck a home in Jabalia in northern Gaza, killing 16 people, a medical source said.

A Palestinian woman was also killed in another Israeli strike on her home in the same town.

The attacks came hours after three people lost their lives and 35 others were injured by Israeli fire while heading to receive aid from an Israeli-American established aid distribution site in Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip.

Four more Palestinians were killed and several others injured in an airstrike targeting a group of civilians near the Abu Sharakh Roundabout in northern Gaza, medics said.

Israeli forces also shelled a school-turned shelter in the central city of Deir al-Balah, leaving at least three people dead and injuring several others, another medical source said.

A municipal worker was also killed and two others were injured in Israeli shelling of their vehicle in the Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza.

Two Palestinian fishermen were wounded by Israeli fire off the coast of Gaza City, the same source said.

In western Rafah, another Palestinian died of wounds sustained from an earlier Israeli strike while heading toward an aid distribution point.

At least 52 Palestinians have been killed and 340 injured since the Israel-introduced aid mechanism came into force on May 27, according to Gaza's Government Media Office.

Israel has devised a plan to establish four aid distribution points in southern and central Gaza, which Israeli media say aims to evacuate Palestinians from northern Gaza into the south.

According to Israel's Army Radio, the aid distribution plan seeks to turn the territory's north into a “completely depopulated area.”

The mechanism was opposed by the international community and the UN, which came as an alternative attempt by Israel to bypass the aid distribution through UN channels.

Since March 2, Israel has kept all border crossings shut, cutting off the entry of food, medicine, fuel and other essential supplies for Gaza's 2.4 million residents.

Meanwhile, the Israeli army continued to blow up homes and buildings in Gaza City and Khan Younis, witnesses said.

Israel, rejecting international calls for a ceasefire, has pursued a devastating offensive in Gaza since October 2023, killing nearly 54,500 Palestinians, most of them women and children.

Aid agencies have warned about the risk of famine among the enclave's more than 2 million inhabitants.
