Beijing's reaction follows Trump accusing Putin, Xi, and Kim of conspiring against US during military parade commemorating end of World War II
China on Thursday rejected US President Donald Trump's claim that at a Chinese Victory Day parade, the Chinese, Russian, and North Korean leaders “conspired” against the US.
The purpose of Beijing's invitation to the foreign guests "was to join peace-loving countries and peoples in remembering history, honoring those who sacrificed their lives, cherishing peace, and looking to the future," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun told a news conference in Beijing, according to the state-run Global Times.
"China's development of diplomatic relations with any country has never been targeted at any third party," Guo said.
Some 26 world leaders, including Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korea’s Kim Jong Un, were hosted by Chinese President Xi Jinping at a massive military parade in Beijing on Wednesday marking the 80th anniversary of China’s victory in World War II.
On Tuesday, Trump accused Putin, Xi, and Kim of conspiring against the US in a post on his social media company Truth Social, noting that many Americans lost their lives in China's struggle for victory in World War II, and stating his hope that their bravery and sacrifice would be "rightfully Honored and Remembered."
Moscow on Wednesday also rejected Trump’s accusation.
“I want to say that no one was plotting (against the US), no one was weaving anything, no conspiracies. Moreover, no one even had this in their thoughts, none of these three leaders had it,” Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov told Russian journalist Pavel Zarubin in an interview on Telegram.
Guo added that Xi expressed "heartfelt gratitude to the foreign governments and international friends who supported and assisted the Chinese people in resisting aggression.”
Beijing calls the conflict the "War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression" and the "World Anti-Fascist War."
Hitting back at EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas’s Wednesday claim that China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea represented an "autocratic alliance" challenging the international system, Guo said her remarks were full of "ideological bias and showed a lack of basic historical knowledge."
Trump is known to conduct foreign policy on a more personal basis than other US presidents, and has expressed admiration for the governing styles of Putin, Xi, and Kim, who he seems to view as his equals.
