Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk says countries assesses outcome of meeting in Alaska 'very realistically'

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk on Tuesday said international leaders remain committed to backing Ukraine in its war with Russia.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer chaired a virtual meeting of the "coalition of the willing" on Tuesday to brief allies on Monday’s Washington talks on Ukraine.

Tusk wrote on the US social media company X following the meeting, saying leaders from Canada, Japan, Türkiye, New Zealand and European countries had assessed the outcome of a meeting in Alaska "very realistically."

He added that all sides had confirmed the need for continued support for Kyiv, calling it "a good introduction to the European Council meeting that is just beginning."

The initiative, led by the UK and France, envisages sending peacekeeping troops from a number of European and NATO countries in post-war Ukraine.

Trump on Monday said the leaders discussed security guarantees for Ukraine, and his administration began preparations for a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and later a trilateral summit involving him.

The Washington meeting came after a Trump-Putin summit in the US state of Alaska aimed at ending the war in Ukraine.
