List of potential candidates to replace current envoy include Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, according to Bloomberg
US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed replacing Kyiv's current ambassador to Washington during their latest phone call on Friday, Bloomberg reported on Monday, citing a person familiar with the matter.
According to the report, the list of potential candidates to replace Oksana Markarova include names such as Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, Deputy Prime Minister Olha Stefanishyna, Defense Minister Rustem Umerov and Energy Minister German Galushchenko.
The report, citing the same person, said Zelenskyy instructed the Foreign Ministry to discuss the appointment with the US side.
Markarova was appointed as Ukraine's ambassador to the US in February 2021.
Zelenskyy said on X that he had a “very important and fruitful” phone call with Trump, describing it as “probably the best conversation we've had so far.”
Ukrainian authorities did not immediately comment on the report.
