Parliament strongly condemns Israel's 'vile' attacks against Syria, especially in Damascus, and reaffirms support for Syrian people

The Turkish parliament approved a motion by its speaker late Wednesday condemning Israel's attacks in Syria.

"We strongly condemn Israel's vile attacks on Syria, particularly targeting (the capital) Damascus. We reiterate our support for the Syrian people," the resolution said.

Israel launched airstrikes on Damascus on Wednesday targeting the Defense Ministry and areas near the presidential palace.

The strikes came as Israel resumed attacks in southern Suwayda province, warning it will continue unless Syrian forces withdraw.

The Syrian army had deployed troops to the area to restore order after clashes between armed Druze and Bedouin groups that killed at least 30 people.

The Israeli army claims the operations are to protect the Druze minority.

-Disregard for international law

The resolution has also been published in the Official Gazette.

The motion described the attacks as yet another example of Tel Aviv's disregard for international law.

It said that Israel has once again revealed its lawlessness—this time in Syria—following its ongoing genocide in Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories as well as recent attacks on Lebanon and Iran.

The motion emphasized that targeting Syria's capital marks a continuation of Israel's broader strategy to fuel regional conflict and undermine peace in the Middle East.

"Israel, in blatant violation of the UN Charter and the fundamental principles of international law, is not only openly breaching Syria's territorial integrity but also launching new acts of aggression to distract from the genocide it is perpetrating against the Palestinian people," the resolution said.

"These attacks are aimed at destabilizing Syria and the wider region. At this critical point, the international community's inexplicable silence and ineffectiveness only embolden Israel's reckless and unlawful behavior."

The motion warned that unless these assaults receive a firm and unified response from the international community, both regional and global peace, security and stability will continue to deteriorate.

"We fully support Syria's territorial integrity and sovereignty, and we vehemently oppose all actions that threaten the peace and wellbeing of our friend and brother, the Syrian nation," it declared.

The motion also noted that peace and stability in Syria are essential to broader regional security, warning that any deterioration would only serve the interests of figures like Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, "whose political survival depends on bloodshed and conflict."

The parliament concluded by reiterating Türkiye's commitment to promoting peace, stability and security in the region and called once again on the international community to raise its voice against Israel's aggression.

It urged global actors to take "effective, consistent and resolute measures" in the face of escalating threats to international peace.
