Türkiye expressed its condolences to Sudan following the collapse of a gold mine in Nile River state that caused numerous deaths and left several people trapped under debris.
In a written statement Monday, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said it was saddened to learn of the incident and extended its sympathies to the victims' families and the people of Sudan.
The ministry also expressed hope for the swift rescue of those still trapped.
At least 50 people were killed when a gold mine collapsed Saturday in the remote desert area of Howeid in Nile River state, according to local media.
