Group's spokesman says attack on USS Harry Truman aircraft carrier was to force warship to leave operational area
The Iran-backed Houthi group in Yemen announced Saturday another attack on the USS Harry Truman aircraft carrier in the Red Sea.
The group's military spokesman Yahya Saree said their forces targeted the ship in the northern Red Sea using missiles and drones.
Saree claimed the attack was to force the carrier to leave its operational area.
He warned that the Houthis would continue targeting Israel in response to its attacks and blockade of the Gaza Strip.
It follows a previous Houthi claim on Monday that it targeted the same ship in the Red Sea.
The Houthis have launched attacks on what they said is Israeli-linked commercial shipping in the Red Sea for more than a year, in solidarity with Palestinians being attacked in Gaza by Israel.
In response, the US is leading a military coalition that is bombing Houthi targets in Yemen.
Houthis have recently escalated attacks against Israel and US targets.
