Yoon Suk Yeol takes up sport again after receiving advice to prepare for interacting with incoming US president

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol has picked up golf again after several years to help him build a rapport with US President-elect Donald Trump, someone known for his love of the sport, a report said Monday.

Yoon has begun practicing golf after being advised to prepare for interactions with Trump, said the Korea JoongAng Daily.

This is the first time since 2016 that Yoon has played golf, according to South Korea's presidential office.

He was known to play golf frequently while serving as a prosecutor.

According to Yoon, however, he could not find much time to engage in the sport following his transfer to the central investigative unit at the Supreme Prosecutors Office in 2010.

Japan's slain Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was known for establishing a friendly relationship with Trump during his first presidency, even gifting him gold-plated golf clubs in 2016.

Abe, who was shot dead in July 2022, fell into a bunker during a round of golf with Trump while he was visiting Japan in November 2017.
