Fuat Bozkurt went into the streets to resist the coup attempt by FETÖ traitors, on the night of July 15th. He was martyred by a helicopter shooting at the Parliament Building minutes after a video recording he had made.
Fuat did not go to university even though he earned the right to, in order to provide for his family. He started working as a machine operator in a private company. On the night of the 15th he ran to the Parliament Building as soon as he heard about the bombing. He was martyred by bullets fired from a helicopter, as he was fighting against the putschists with his friend. Fuat Bozkurt’s body was left with other martyrs who had nobody with them.
“Bandage my wounds, I will go again”
Hasan Bozkurt, Fuat’s father, stated that his son went into the streets to resist the coup attempt after doing his ablutions and was martyred by a helicopter. Hasan continued, “My son’s friend pulled him under the bridge to protect him after he was wounded. He used his shirt as a bandage for his wound. A member of the parliament saw them while passing by. He told my son that he was a member of the parliament. My son told him, ‘Sir, bring me a doctor so he can bandage my wounds and I can go again.’ The member of parliament started crying as soon as my son said those words.
Fuat’s mother Sebahat said the following about her son, “My son has always been a hero. He would give his life for his country. He has never disappointed his mother, father, or siblings. He always would say, ‘I will provide for my parents.’ He was accepted into university but he didn’t go. He said, ‘I will work and provide for my family. Who will look after you if I go?’ He gave his life for us, for his country. My god gave me him and again he took him. It was meant to be. My son was beautiful. His grave is beautiful too.”
Fuat was buried in the Malatya Martyrs’ Cemetery. He was martyred at the age of 28 and left behind the video he shot around the parliament building showing low flying F-16s.
The name Martyr Fuat Bozkurt was given to a middle school in Yeşilyurt, Malatya.
