Mehmet Şengül went outside without telling anyone on the night of the July 15th coup attempt, and headed to the General Staff Headquarters upon the call of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. He did not leave his spot despite the warning fires of putschist soldiers. He was with the group marching while chanting, “God is the greatest!” He was martyred from crossfire in front of the General Staff Headquarters. He was martyred before he could accomplish any of his projects, which would have been beneficial for all of humanity.
30 year old Mehmet headed to the General Staff Headquarters without telling anyone. His brother Abdülcabbar, called him a couple of times but he got no response. He found out that his brother was wounded after a nurse answered the phone eventually. He then later found out that his brother was martyred on the spot, He couldn’t tell his parents in Tekirdağ that his brother died so he called them to Ankara, saying his brother was injured. Abdülcabbar said he was relieved after his parents saw the smiling face of his martyred brother. He described his brother as very mature, smart, and a productive person with lots of projects. He went on to describe those projects as projects that would provide equal opportunities for many people.
