The Russia-Ukraine War won’t last forever. Sooner or later, every war ends. Had the peace talks initiated in Türkiye in March 2022 continued, Ukraine could have suffered far fewer losses. But due to the deliberate sabotage by the U.S. and the U.K., Volodymyr Zelensky lacked the will to pursue negotiations.

Zelensky came to power with overwhelming public support, promising to implement the Minsk Agreements. Yet, he either failed to do so or chose not to. As a result, Ukraine became a battleground for America’s proxy war against Russia. Germany and France had brokered the Minsk Agreements, yet after stepping down, former German Chancellor Angela Merkel admitted they were merely a ploy to stall Russia and buy time for Ukraine.

Back in 1990, during the collapse of the Soviet Union, the Americans had assured that NATO would not expand even an inch eastward. Meanwhile, the Warsaw Pact, NATO’s Cold War counterpart under Moscow’s leadership, was dissolved in 1991. Yet, NATO continued its relentless expansion, absorbing former Warsaw Pact nations and creeping toward Russia’s western borders.

The root cause of the Russia-Ukraine War was the U.S. and NATO signaling a green light for Ukraine’s integration. The West miscalculated, assuming Russia would accept Ukraine’s NATO membership. Instead, they blocked the Minsk Agreements, despite Russia being open to Ukraine joining the European Union. Had Europe guaranteed Ukraine’s armed neutrality outside NATO, Ukraine could have served as a bridge between Russia and the West.

The West’s issue with Russia dates back to the 18th century when Europe viewed it as an outsider state. Even after the Soviet Union collapsed, the U.S. and Europe treated Russia as spoils to be divided rather than an equal partner. Russia’s flirtation with the West ended in betrayal, and Putin’s rise was a direct response to this dynamic.

Russia’s military intervention in Ukraine was the final link in a long chain of events stretching back to the 1990s. Contrary to Western media’s claims, it was not "unprovoked." Ignoring the root causes only deepened the crisis.

For the U.S., Ukraine became a tool to weaken Russia as much as possible. But European sanctions on Russia backfired, driving up living costs and triggering economic turmoil. This upheaval fueled the rise of far-right parties, which now threaten the European Union from within. Trump’s presidency only worsened Europe’s predicament—while Washington sought to profit from Ukraine’s rare earth minerals, the EU began to crack at its foundations.

Just like the Ukrainians, the Europeans have found themselves powerless in Trump’s negotiations with Russia. Yet, even after being sidelined, European leaders failed to wake up. Germany and France, the EU’s anchors, have offered no viable exit strategy. While the U.S. moves away from its anti-Russia stance, Europe remains stuck in the crisis. The leadership vacuum in key EU states is undeniable.

Geography is destiny. Unlike the U.S., Europe must coexist with Russia. The EU, with its 450 million people, is the world’s second-largest economy after the U.S., whereas Russia’s economy is smaller than Italy’s. So, who should fear whom? This simple comparison exposes both the hollowness of Europe’s Russophobia and its political decline.

To sum up: Trump is telling Russia, "I’ll take Ukraine’s rare earth minerals, you take what you have. Ukraine won’t join NATO. There will be no U.S. troops in Ukraine under any circumstances. If European NATO members send troops, it won’t be under NATO’s banner, and Article 5 won’t apply."

This is the essence of Trump’s stance. But what is the EU telling Russia and Ukraine? The "European family" can’t even reach a common position among themselves, let alone offer a solution. And in such chaos, how can the EU be expected to broker peace?
