President Xi Jinping to attend parade at Beijing's Tiananmen Square on Sep. 3
China on Tuesday said it will hold a major military parade in September to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, state news agency Xinhua reported.
The parade to be held in Beijing's Tian'anmen Square on Sep. 3, will not only showcase traditional main battle forces, but also feature new domains and new "quality forces."
Beijing calls the end of World War II as victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
President Xi Jinping will review the troops during the parade and deliver a speech at the gathering.
According to Wu Zeke, a senior officer of the Joint Staff Department of the Central Military Commission, the parade will feature marching formations, armored columns, and aerial echelons, and display new types of combat forces, including unmanned, intelligent equipment.
The equipment – all domestically produced – on display will include new unmanned intelligence, underwater warfare, network and electronic attack and defense, and hypersonic warfare weapons.
Wu said the new generation of traditional weapons and equipment reflect Chinese military's ability to evolve according to science and technology advancements and to win future wars.
