New routes from London to Frankfurt and Geneva expect to begin in early 2030s
Eurostar has announced plans to introduce direct London-Frankfurt and London-Geneva high-speed train services, with operations expected to begin in the early 2030s
The new routes will be served by a fleet of up to 50 new trains, representing an investment of approximately €2 billion. This expansion will increase Eurostar's total fleet by 30%, bringing it to 67 trains according to a written statement.
In addition to the London-Frankfurt and London-Geneva routes, Eurostar will also operate a direct service between Amsterdam/Brussels and Geneva in cooperation with partners.
In the short term, Eurostar plans to enhance existing services between London, Rotterdam, and Amsterdam by adding a fourth daily train from Sept. 9, 2025, and a fifth service from mid-December.
Eurostar reported a 5% increase in passenger numbers in 2024, reaching over 19.5 million travelers.
Eurostar CEO Gwendoline Cazenave said the new fleet would enable customers to travel further by rail and enjoy sustainable, international journeys. "Despite the challenging economic climate, Eurostar is growing and has bold ambitions for the future," she added.
