Letter to UN denounces attack on Qatari capital as criminal act, threat to national security

Qatar warned Wednesday that it will not tolerate Israel’s “reckless conduct” following an airstrike targeting Hamas leadership in the capital Doha.

In a message to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and Sangjin Kim, South Korea’s acting envoy who currently chairs the Security Council, Doha described the Israeli strike as a “cowardly attack” and urged the Council to circulate the letter as an official document, the state news agency QNA reported.

The letter condemned the assault in the strongest terms, calling it a “criminal act that blatantly violates international law and poses a serious threat to the safety and security of Qatari citizens and residents.”

Authorities, including security services and civil defense units, immediately intervened to contain the fallout and safeguard nearby neighborhoods, according to the statement.

Qatar stressed that it “will not stand idle in the face of such reckless behavior or any act undermining its sovereignty and regional stability,” adding that a high-level investigation is underway and further details will be released in due course.

On Tuesday, Qatar strongly condemned the Israeli attack as a “blatant violation of international law” and a threat to its sovereignty and security.

The Gulf state has been a key mediator in Gaza ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Hamas, working alongside Egypt and the US.

Hamas confirmed that five members were killed in the Israeli attack, while its negotiating delegation survived.
