Authorities searching for Nikolai Andreevich Svechnikov since Aug. 24, with police, coast guard, underwater rescue teams conducting operations in Bosphorus

Search operations are continuing for a Russian swimmer who went missing in an Istanbul Strait race.

The 37th Bosphorus Cross-Continental Swimming Race was organized by the Turkish National Olympic Committee (TMOK) on Aug. 24 with 2,820 athletes from 81 countries.

After the race, it was discovered that Nikolai Andreevich Svechnikov had not reached the shore.

Search operations were launched immediately by the authorities, and have now entered a fifth day.

Underwater search and rescue teams from the Istanbul Police, Coast Guard Command and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality continue detailed operations across the Bosphorus, focusing on the Kanlica–Kurucesme area where the race took place.​​​​​​​
