Temperatures from Aug. 6 to 30 broke previous record of 24 consecutive days of temperatures above 35 degrees Celsius, set in 1926, reports media

Shanghai, China's largest city and a global financial hub, has set a new heat record, breaking the 1926 record of 25 consecutive days with temperatures above 35 degrees Celsius (95 degrees Fahrenheit), state-run media reported on Saturday.

The temperatures from Aug. 6 to 30 broke the previous record of 24 consecutive days set in 1926, Global Times reported, citing the municipal meteorological bureau.

"This breaks a record set 99 years ago in 1926 when the city experienced 24 consecutive days from July 22 to August 14 with temperatures surpassing 35 °C," it said.

Shanghai, located on China's central coast, is the country's largest city and financial center.

In July, China issued high heat warnings for 754 provinces, cities, and counties after many regions' temperatures exceeded 40°C (104°F), while much of eastern China, the country's most populous region, experienced widespread heat above 35°C (95°F).

This year, flooding and typhoons hit multiple provinces in the country, killing dozens of people.
