US President Trump says he does 'not particularly' agree with remarks by Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu that 'there is no starvation in Gaza' because 'those children look very hungry'
US President Donald Trump and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Monday met in Scotland "for a wide range of talks," with the situation in the Middle East and trade as the top agenda items.
The planned meeting between Trump and Starmer is taking place at the US president's Turnberry golf club in Scotland, where they are expected to hold talks on a wide range of issues, including Gaza.
Speaking to reporters ahead of the bilateral meeting, Trump said that they are going to be talking "very much about Gaza."
Asked by reporters whether he agrees with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's controversial statement that "there is no starvation in Gaza," the US president said he would say: "Not particularly."
"I don't know. I mean, based on television, I would say, not particularly, because those children look very hungry," he noted.
He went on to say that the US is giving "a lot of money and a lot of food," as Starmer said there is a "humanitarian crisis" in Gaza, which is an "absolute catastrophe."
"Nobody wants to see that, and I think people in Britain are revolted at seeing what they're seeing on their screens," added Starmer.
Asked if Israel has done enough to prevent civilian casualties in the besieged enclave, Trump replied: "I think nobody's done anything great over there -- the whole place is a mess."
Trump also said that he told Netanyahu: "You are going to have to now maybe do it a different way." The US president added that a ceasefire is possible.
On the war in Ukraine, Trump said he is "very disappointed" with Russian President Vladimir Putin, saying Putin "goes out and starts launching rockets into some city like Kyiv and kills a lot of people in a nursing home or whatever."
He added: "We're going to have to look. I'm going to reduce that 50 days that I gave him (for ceasefire with Ukraine) to a lesser number, because I think I already know the answer."
