'We emphasize that no formations or mass gatherings of personnel were held,' says Land Forces of Ukraine's Armed Forces

Ukraine on Sunday said that at least 12 of its servicemen were killed and more than 60 injured in a Russian missile strike on a training center.

A statement from the Land Forces of Ukraine's Armed Forces (AFU) on Telegram said that Russia launched a missile “on the location of one of the training units” of the AFU, without providing further details on where the strike took place.

“As of 12:50 pm (0950GMT), 12 people have been killed and over 60 injured,” the statement further said.

“We emphasize that no formations or mass gatherings of personnel were held,” it further said, noting that those injured are being provided with all necessary medical assistance.

The statement also said a commission has been created to clarify the details behind the attack, indicating that an investigation has also been launched.

“If it is established that the actions or inaction of officials led to the death and injury of servicemen, the guilty will be held strictly liable,” the statement went on to say, adding that additional security measures are being taken to safeguard Ukrainian servicemen.

Later in the day, Mykhailo Drapatyi, the commander of the Land Forces, announced that he submitted his resignation over the incident.

"Without personal responsibility, there is no development. Without development, there is no victory," Drapatyi said on Telegram.

Russian authorities have not immediately commented on Ukraine's remarks.
