Mayweather earned $285 million in the past year, business magazine Forbes reveals
U.S. boxer Floyd Mayweather is Forbes' highest-paid athlete in the world with $285 million in earnings.
The U.S. business magazine revealed its Top 100 list of the world's highest paid athletes on Tuesday on its website.
Forbes counted athletes' salaries, income from tournaments and sponsors well as bonuses obtained from June 2017 to June 2018.
Mayweather, 41, retired in August 2017 after his bout against former Ultimate Fighting Championship featherweight and lightweight champion Conor McGregor, for which he earned $275 million.
The remaining $10 million came from endorements.
This marks the fourth time in seven years that Mayweather ranks as the world's highest-paid athlete
Mayweather was followed by football stars Argentine veteran Lionel Messi, who plays for Barcelona, and Real Madrid's Portuguese forward Cristiano Ronaldo.
Messi's earnings amounted to $111 million while Ronaldo's totaled $108 million.
