Saudi Arabia must cooperate with the investigation into the disappearance of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi and allow Turkish officials to enter its Istanbul consulate, Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said on Saturday.
Çavuşoğlu was speaking to reporters during a visit to London, after a delegation from Saudi Arabia arrived in Turkey for a joint investigation into Khashoggi's disappearance.
"There is consensus on forming a joint working group with Saudi Arabia over missing journalist Khashoggi," Çavuşoğlu said.
"It is natural for everyone to show awareness of the case and want it to be clarified," he added.
On the same day that the Saudi journalist arrived at the consulate, 15 other Saudis, including several officials, arrived in Istanbul on two planes and visited the building while Khashoggi was also inside, police sources said. All of the identified individuals have since left Turkey.
Saudi authorities have yet to give a clear explanation of Khashoggi’s fate, while several countries -- particularly Turkey, the U.S., and the U.K -- are pressing the case to be cleared up as soon as possible.
