Specialist Sergeant Halit Yaşar Mine was one of the soldiers under the command of Colonel Sait Ertürk, who was martyred in the Topkule Barracks on the night of the July 15th bloody coup attempt. Halit was martyred during the shootout with putschists at the 66th Mechanized Infantry Brigade Command. Mine always said, “I would like to be a martyr even if I bleed to death.”
Halit set off with the highest ranking soldier of the night, Infantry Colonel Saity Ertürk. They set up two teams of four lead by two commanders to fight the traitorous attempt. This way, they would be able to stop the activity in the Brigade preventing tanks, weapons, and soldiers to go out. Two teams moved to the headquarters to seize the traitors and turn them in to security forces. However, Halit was wounded in his fight against the FETÖ members. He reached martyrdom on July 18th in the hospital he was taken to.
His family took his body to his hometown of Adana. His funeral was held in the Sabancı Merkez Mosque. He was buried in the Adana Asri Cemetery on July 19th.

Originally from Yozgat, Halit completed his elementary and middle school education in Adana. He started preparing for police exams after graduating from Accounting in Selçuk University. He entered Police exams three times and started working as an Infantry Specialist Sergeant. It was 3 years since he had started working in Istanbul. He was very fond of his family and home, he would always say, “I would like to be a martyr even if I bleed to death.”
The name Martyr Halit Yaşar Mine was given to a middle school in Seyhan, Adana.
