İbrahim Ateş went into the streets to defend his country on July 15th but was martyred after a piece of shrapnel hit him in his neck from the bomb attack on the General Staff Headquarters Building.
İhbrahim wanted to go into the streets after he heard about the coup attempt by FETÖ traitors, but his wife locked the door of their house in order to prevent him from leaving. He forced his wife to open the door and went outside to defend his country without any hesitation. He met with three cousins and headed to the General Staff headquarters. He was caught in crossfire when arriving at the headquarters. He managed to escape from the helicopter firing at people but died a martyr at 02:45 after a piece of shrapnel hit him in the neck. Ateş died of blood loss on the way to the hospital. His cousins became veterans in the coup.
İbrahim was buried at the Süleler Neighborhood Cemetary in Kızılcahamam after the funeral.
The name Martyr İbrahim Ateş was given to an Anatolian imam hatip high school in Biga, Çanakkale.
