“No other title would suit my husband”
Köksal’s wife Şerife Kaşaltı, described the night to Yeni Şafak, “My husband is a police officer, he worked that night. He didn’t come home after things got bad. He called me and said, ‘lock the doors, and don’t open the door to anybody before I come.’ He sent me messages until the morning telling me he was alright. He texted me for the last time at 05:00 saying, ‘I’m fine, go to sleep.’ He was martyred after the second explosion at the Presidential Complex. I called him many times but I couldn’t reach him. He didn’t answer my texts either. When the door rang in the morning, I ran to the door saying ‘husband!’ My son said ‘dad!’ And my mother-in-law said ‘son!’ But my husband didn’t arrive, instead it was the news of his martyrdom. My husband loved his country. No other title would suit him. He made history. He died as a martyr as he was defending his country.
The name Martyr Köksal Kaşaltı was given to an elementary school in Keçiören, Ankara.
