Muhammet Fazlı Demir headed to Kısıklı to defend his country with his friends after he heard about the coup attempt on July 15th. He rolled down the windows of his car and said to the putschists, “We are giving our lives for our country. What are you doing?” The traitors became aggravated by his comment and started shooting at his car.
41 year old Muhammet was married and had 2 daughters, ages 12 and 18. He worked as a Real Estate Consultant and was also the Chairman of Organization for the Erbakan Foundation.
“Don’t worry about me, you go ahead”
Muhammet’s wife Fatma, described the night of FETÖ’s treason to Yeni Şafak, “I was barely able to stay away because I had taken medicine that night, since I was feeling sick. I heard the adhan, I did my ablutions and we did our prayers together. Muhammet told me he needed to go after he heard about the coup attempt. I told him to go and not to worry about me. He left me sick in the house. He later called me and asked me for my blessings as I was reading the Quran at the time. I gave him my blessings and said to him, ‘Go but come back. I want you back.’ But later on I received the news of his martyrdom.
Muhammet was buried in the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Cemetery on July 17th. The name Martyr Muhammet Fazlı Demir was given to an Anatolian imam hatip high school in Sultanbeyli, Istanbul.
