Murat Demir, who was martyred in front of the TRT building, left his house upon the call of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, on the night of the july 15th coup attempt. He ran on to the streets saying, “I need to save my country!” He was shot in the head by putschsits who were trying to seize the TRT building.
Murat was known for his admiration for President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. On the night of the coup, he told his wife, “If I don’t go, if nobody goes, nobody will be able to sleep tomorrow. The country will be a mess. I need to save my country.” Nobody in his family saw him again after that. He was shot in the head around 05:00 while he was resisting the putschsits in front of the TRT building.
Even though he was shot in the brain, he somehow managed to survive until 11:00 in the morning. Vildan rushed to the hospital after a police officer gave her the news. When she arrived at the hospital, she saw that her husband was alive but unconscious.
He talked to his daughter before he died
39 year old Murat was the father of 2 children, one girl and one boy. Originally from Kastamonu, and had been married to designer Vildan Demirci for 15 years.
His two children, were left orphans just like their father was. According to Vildan, her 8 year old daughter said, “I’m the daughter of a martyr. My father went into a war to save our country.” She also said her husband acted as if he felt he was going to die. A short time before his death, Murat gave away his doves to a friend. He had called his daughter and said, “I love you. I missed you so much.” almost like a farewell.
