When he heard about the vicious coup attempt of July 15th, Vedat Büyüköztaş, rushed to the streets saying, “No matter what happens,” and was martyred in front of the General Staff building.
On the evening of July 15th, hearing about the coup attempt while having dinner with his colleague Yusuf Çelik in Kızılay, Vedat went to the General Staff building immediately, taking his friend with him. At 01:15, his brother called him to tell him to come back home. He replied, “No matter what happens,” and was martyred on the scene by gunfire opened from helicopters. His friend Yusuf Çelik reached martyrdom at Numune Hospital where he was taken.
36 Year old Vedat, who had lost his wife and two children in a traffic accident 4 years ago, was buried in Sarıyahşi, Aksaray on July 18th.
The martyr’s name was given to a primary school in his hometown, Aksaray.
