The president of the Social Security Institution, Mehmet Selim Bağlı ordered all of his employees to take stand against the putschists in their served cities during the July 15th coup attempt. Following his instructions, Yakup Kozan, went to the General Staff building, and was martyred their by gunfire.
Father of one, Yakup was an employee at the Ankara Social Security Institution. He stood up to the putschists in front of the General Staff building. Exposed to merciless interference by the putschists, Kozan was martyred on the scene.
Yakup was buried in the Karşıyaka Cemetery on July 18th.
The name Martyr Yakup Kozan was given to an Anatolian imam hatip high school in his hometown in Çorum.
