24 Year old police officer Yunus Uğur was in Ankara taking courses to become a helicopter pilot, when he was martyred after the bomb attack on the Gölbaşı Special Operations Headquarters.
He had been engaged for just 2 months, when he reported for duty as soon as he heard about the coup attempt. He was childhood friends with the twin police officers, Ahmet and Mehmet Oruç, who were also martyred during the bomb attack on Gölbaşı. The martyred Oruç brothers and Yunus spent their childhood growing up in the same neighborhood. The three shared the same desks in the same school. After high school, they all had enrolled in the police academy that they had always dreamt of attending, and began to serve at the Adana Riot Police Department after graduation.
Yunus was buried in his hometown Adana, after the funeral service which was held on July 17th.
The name Martyr Yunus Uğur was given to a middle school in Seyhan, Adana.
