Best outcome of Trump-Putin Alaska meeting would be if Russia reaches conclusion that Western world will continue to stand by Ukraine, says Kristersson

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said that how the war in Ukraine ends will be decisive for the security of the region, ahead of the Alaska summit between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"How the war in Ukraine ends will be decisive for security in our part of the world for at least a generation to come," Kristersson told Radio Sweden, after joining a virtual Coalition of the Willing meeting held on Wednesday.

He noted that the best outcome of the upcoming Alaska meeting would be if Russia reaches the conclusion that the "united Western world will continue to stand by Ukraine and that Russia cannot win the war," Radio Sweden reported Friday.

Kristersson added that, in the worst-case scenario, if Russia continues the war, they would keep supporting Ukraine and increase sanctions against Moscow.
