Curfews were imposed in 65 villages and fields in the southeastern Diyarbakır province on Thursday

The governor’s office of Turkey’s southeastern province of Diyarbakır has declared a curfew in 65 villages and fields of the Lice and Hani districts in a written statement due to counterterror operations against Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) terrorists.

“The operations will be carried out to 'neutralize' PKK terrorists and its collaborators stationed in mountain and forest areas within the boundaries of the Lice, Hani districts, and to demolish the shelters, depots, anti-aircraft positions and seize materials used by the terrorists,” read the statement.

Entering and leaving the neighborhoods are forbidden until further notice, the statement added.

The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the European Union and the United States. The PKK has been conducting armed violence in the southeastern part of Turkey since 1984. More than 40,000 people, mostly civilians, have been killed in the three-decade long conflict.
