Football star Max Kruse of Turkey’s Fenerbahçe raised eyebrows on Tuesday when he told members of the press he uses Nutella to test for coronavirus.
The German star said he was staying home as he recovers from his injury, noting that he wakes up in the middle of the night and uses the famous chocolate hazelnut spread as a coronavirus test.
“They’re saying coronavirus causes a sudden loss of taste, so I woke up one night and I had a Nutella toast. I was able to taste it. I did a small test.”
The star also pointed that he doesn’t follow a strict diet while staying at home, acknowledging the difficulty of staying away from food during self-isolation.
“You have to really pay attention if you’re staying home. Staying away from food is hard. I have no nutritional diet but I try to eat healthy whenever possible.”
After emerging in Wuhan, China last December, the coronavirus, officially known as COVID-19, has spread to at least 169 countries and regions, according to data compiled by U.S.-based Johns Hopkins University.
Out of more than 415,000 confirmed cases, the death toll now exceeds 18,500, while nearly 108,000 have recovered.
