Saudia Airlines flight SV5688, carrying 376 Indonesian pilgrims and 13 crew members, diverted to Kualanamu International Airport in Medan instead of Surabaya in Java

A Saudi Airlines plane carrying Hajj pilgrims heading back to Indonesia made an emergency landing on Sumatra Island on Saturday after facing a bomb threat, the second such incident in a week, according to local media.

Saudia Airlines flight SV5688 was en route from the Saudi city of Jeddah to Java Island's Surabaya city, Kompas reported.

North Sumatra Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Ferry Walintukan said the bomb squad searched the airplane.

Ferry said the passengers were disembarked and evacuated at the airport.

The plane had 376 Hajj pilgrims and 13 crew members aboard.

This was the second time this week that a plane made an emergency landing due to a bomb threat.

On Tuesday, another Saudi Airlines flight on the Jeddah-Jakarta route was diverted to Kualanamu Airport following another bomb threat.

The plane, which was carrying 442 Hajj pilgrims from West Java, was declared safe after police searched it.
