District Judge Allison D. Burroughs issues preliminary injunction enabling Ivy school to host international students
A US federal judge on Friday again blocked the Trump administration from revoking Harvard University's ability to host international students.
District Judge Allison D. Burroughs issued the preliminary injunction directing the Trump administration to “immediately” prepare guidance to officials and "to restore every visa holder and applicant" to their status before the administration's move to block them.
Burroughs said the defendants' guidance must be issued within 72 hours.
Earlier this month, Trump signed a proclamation to restrict foreign student visas at the Ivy League school.
The proclamation targets not only incoming students but also calls for the State Department to review current foreign students at Harvard to decide if their visas should be revoked.
The administration has pulled $3 billion in funding and threatened to remove Harvard's tax-exempt status, citing campus protests in support of Palestine and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs.
President Donald Trump suggested Friday that a major settlement may soon be reached with Harvard University.
"We have been working closely with Harvard, and it is very possible that a Deal will be announced over the next week or so," Trump said on social media.
