A strong earthquake with a magnitude of 5.9 struck off the Okinawa province in southwestern Japan on Thursday.
The earthquake took place 18 kilometers (11.1 miles) north of Yonaguni Island at 0745GMT at a depth of 108.5 km (67.4 miles), according to the US Geological Survey.
The quake was also felt in Taiwan's capital Taipei.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or structural damage.
