Türkiye and Syria signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) Wednesday for the establishment of a business council to re-establish institutional cooperation between the two nations, the Turkish Trade Ministry said.

A roundtable meeting was held under the chairmanship of the Syrian Economy and Industry Minister Nidal Al-Shaar, with a Syrian delegation and Türkiye's Deputy Trade Minister O. Volkan Agar, with the participation of businesspeople who are members of Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEIK), the ministry said X.

During the meeting, opportunities for cooperation that could be developed between the two countries in the process of Syria’s reconstruction were discussed, in particular the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) and Public-Private Partnership models.

"To re-establish institutional cooperation between the two countries, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed to establish the Türkiye-Syria Business Council, and with nine additional Memoranda of Understanding signed between civil society organizations in Türkiye and Syria, a strong and sustainable foundation for cooperation has been created," according to the ministry.

It added that they will resolutely continue efforts to strengthen direct communication channels between the private sectors of the two countries to deepen and institutionalize the economic and commercial relations.
