Bangladesh all-rounder Mahmudullah will miss his team's playoff in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) after testing positive for COVID-19, local media reported on Monday.

The 34-year-old had replaced England's Moeen Ali at Multan Sultans who face Karachi Kings in the first PSL qualifier on Saturday.

"I was surprised with a positive result from my COVID test, on November 6," Mahmudullah told website ESPNcricinfo.

"I didn't have fever or any other symptoms other than a bit of cold. Nothing more than that. I got tested for a second time yesterday, and that also came out as positive."

Mahmudullah, Bangladesh's Twenty20 captain, has self-isolated at home.

In his absence, Tamim Iqbal will be the only Bangladesh cricketer playing in the PSL, for Lahore Qalandars.

"It is disappointing to miss the chance to play in the PSL," Mahmudullah said.

"It was a good opportunity to play a couple of matches there. I am now looking forward to getting well soon and ... participate in our Bangabandhu T20 Cup."
