Rumors about Özil's transfer to Turkey's Fenerbahçe began circulating on social media, claiming that the Arsenal midfielder has already bought property worth millions of dollars in Istanbul

German footballer of Turkish descent Mesut Özil, who was left out of Arsenal’s Europa League squad in September upon the decision of head coach Unai Emery, is allegedly considering signing a deal with Turkish football club Fenerbahçe.

The 30-year-old Arsenal midfielder has already purchased a property in Istanbul for £10 million, Turkish local newspapers reported the transfer rumors on Thursday.

This is not the first time that rumors about his transfer to Fenerbahçe have been reported.

Earlier in July, Turkey's Fenerbahçe quashed more reports that it is looking to sign Mesut Ozil.

Özil announced his retirement from the German national football team in 2018, citing "discrimination and racism".

Germany’s star player was criticized by German politicians and media outlets after he met Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in May, ahead of elections in Turkey.
