A sweeping outbreak of forest fires has left a trail of destruction across 7,000 hectares (17,297 acres) in Central Portugal, as confirmed by local authorities. Responding to the crisis, the National Civil Protection Authority deployed a force of over a thousand firefighters to combat the blazes in the towns of Ourem (Central) and Odemira (South).
