Starmer, Zelenskyy welcome US president's new deadline for Russia 'to stop their stalling tactics and make meaningful progress on a peace deal'

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday welcomed US President Donald Trump's new deadline for Russia to act on the Ukraine ceasefire and "to stop their stalling tactics."

In a phone call, Starmer expressed his condolences for the deadly attack on the Ukrainian capital Kyiv in recent days, according to a statement by the prime minister's office.

"It was a bitter reminder of the human cost of the awful conflict perpetrated by Russia," said Starmer.

The statement noted that Starmer also updated Zelenskyy on Trump's recent visit to Scotland where he announced a new deadline of "about 10-12 days" for Russia to make progress on a ceasefire.

Both leaders welcomed Trump's new deadline on Russia "to stop their stalling tactics and make meaningful progress on a peace deal."

Turning to the agreement to share battlefield technology and scale up the production of drones that Starmer and Zelenskyy agreed on in June, the British premier provided an update on the strong progress being made at a rapid pace.

Starmer also welcomed the passing of Ukraine’s anti-corruption bill earlier this week.

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump said Tuesday that Russia has "10 days from today" to end its war on Ukraine, or face US penalties.
