Hamas says its fighters struck armored personnel carrier in Khan Younis, shelled 2 command sites
The Palestinian resistance group Hamas said Tuesday that its fighters had killed and injured several Israeli soldiers in an ambush in southern Gaza.
The group’s armed wing, the Qassam Brigades, said on Telegram that its fighters detonated a powerful barrel bomb under an armored personnel carrier in al-Zanna, northeast of Khan Younis, killing and injuring soldiers on board.
The group added that its operatives observed an Israeli helicopter landing at the site for evacuation.
Hamas said it also shelled two Israeli army command-and-control sites in the eastern Tuffah neighborhood of Gaza City and the Morag axis, south of Khan Younis. Both were targeted with heavy-caliber mortar shells.
There was no immediate Israeli comment on the Hamas statement.
Israel typically enforces strict censorship on the publication of its military losses in Gaza and refrains from disclosing the full extent of its casualties.
Despite more than 21 months since the start of Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza in October 2023, Palestinian resistance factions continue to conduct well-planned ambushes in the area, inflicting casualties on Israeli forces, showcasing Tel Aviv’s inability to achieve its war objectives.
The Israeli army, rejecting international calls for a ceasefire, has pursued a brutal offensive on Gaza since Oct. 7, 2023, killing more than 61,000 Palestinians, almost half of them women and children. Israel’s military campaign has devastated the enclave and brought it to the verge of famine.
Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
