Washington aligning with Israel undermines peace efforts, says Türkiye's communications director

Türkiye on Sunday criticized the US airstrike on Iran's nuclear facilities, warning it could spark further instability across the Middle East and beyond.

"The US airstrike targeting Iran's nuclear facilities, aligning itself with Israel's aggression toward Iran, is a new step that will lead not to peace and stability in the Middle East, but to chaos and turmoil," Türkiye's Communications Director Fahrettin Altun said on X.

Altun warned that, just as previous US military interventions in Iraq and Afghanistan fueled radicalization and terrorism, the current strike on Iran carries similar risks.

“There is a direct link between America's military interventions and the dynamics that, in the West, alter Europe's political landscape and fuel hostility toward foreigners and Muslims, and, in the East, trigger anti-Western and anti-American sentiment,” he noted.

He also criticized US support for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government.

"If the US chooses to follow Netanyahu's network instead of preventing Israel's genocidal war policies and restraining the uncontrollable course of the out-of-control Netanyahu administration, world peace will remain a much more distant goal," Altun said.

"We call on the international community to unite around what is reasonable, to oppose the attempts of a fanatical network to provoke and sabotage the international system, and to remain committed to diplomacy in resolving regional and global issues," he stressed, adding that Türkiye will continue defending stability and harmony between civilizations.

US President Donald Trump said early Sunday that his forces bombed three Iranian nuclear sites in Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan.

The US targeted Iran's nuclear sites with six bunker-buster bombs dropped on the Fordo facility with B-2 stealth bombers, along with dozens of submarine-launched cruise missile strikes on the Natanz and Isfahan facilities.

The attacks came as the latest escalation in a US-backed Israeli military assault on Iran since June 13, prompting Tehran to launch retaliatory attacks on Israel.

Israeli authorities said at least 25 people have been killed and hundreds injured since then in Iranian missile attacks.

Meanwhile, in Iran, 430 people have been killed and more than 3,500 wounded in the Israeli assault, according to the Iranian Health Ministry.
