Besiktas defeated Istanbul rivals Galatasaray 0-1 in Turkey's Spor Toto Super Lig derby clash on Monday, bagging three more crucial points and extending their lead at the top of the table.
Flamboyant Portuguese attacking midfielder Anderson Talisca's deflected free-kick deceived goalkeeper Fernando Muslera on the 47th minute, giving his team a vital 1-0 lead.
The Black Eagles started the match at Galatasaray's Turk Telekom Arena at a controlled pace, but the home side was the more attacking outfit, with contributions from winger Armindo Bruma and German striker Lukas Podolski.
However, many Galatasaray chances were wasted as the Lions were unable to find the net on several occasions.
With Monday's important derby victory, Besiktas increased their points haul to 50 and continue to lead the league, four points ahead of second-placed Medipol Basaksehir.
Galatasaray, meanwhile, remain at the third spot on 40 points.
